The RAFD conducts annual fire inspections of all multi-family dwellings and businesses in the Ripon Area Fire District.
We identify fire hazards and enact and enforce fire codes throughout our jurisdiction to limit loss of life, injuries, and property damage. The Ripon historic downtown area consists of buildings well over one hundred years old. Many are interconnected and contain family residences occupying second floor apartments. We continuously monitor these areas for upgrades and compliance to fire codes.
Inspections provide the owners with recommendations on making the property and place of business safer. Some of the items we check include:
- Working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- Auxiliary, proprietary, and fire suppression systems, etc.
- Egress clearances and escape plans with two ways out
- Inside and outside hazards, etc.
Together, the fire department and property owners work to prevent fires and reduce fire fatalities.
